Key concepts in transport and location
This course discusses the methods and results of spatial economic research and new evolutions in the discipline, with special attention for applications in transport. We elaborate on the parameters used in the main classic location theories, as well as on their relationship with the transport sector. Applications in related sectors, such as retail and industrial real estate, will also be discussed. The urban geographic part of the course focuses on urban competition and global city networks. A visit to the London City and Docklands, or a strategic urban development project in Paris, will teach the students to interpret the spatial dynamics and urban problems in different neighbourhoods of a world city. The European regional economic differences that drive Flemish regional policies and management complete the course.
