Beschrijving

As a researcher, it is becoming more important to look beyond the borders of your area of expertise. Interdisciplinary collaboration can provide new insights to pressing research questions.

With this in mind, the Scientific Research Committee and the departments of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences organise 'Interdisciplinary Medical & Health Seminars' together.

This annual seminar series consists of 10 thematic lectures with attention to complementarity between different research areas and their applications. Both state-of-the-art fundamental (bio)medical research as well as translational and clinical research are discussed.

To ensure that the lectures are representative for the diversity of research within the faculty, each department chooses one international top speaker.

Programma

The Human Cell Atlas (HCA) is a global initiative that aims to create a reference atlas of the human body by mapping every cell. Having a reference atlas of the healthy human body will allow us to understand what has changed in disease and how we can reverse or ameliorate these pathological processes. The Haniffa Lab is involved in the Human Developmental Cell Atlas (HDCA) initiative which aims to create a comprehensive reference map of cells during development. This will be critical to understanding normal organogenesis, the effect of mutations, environmental factors and infectious agents on human development, congenital and childhood disorders, and the cellular basis of ageing, cancer and regenerative medicine. Prof. Haniffa is one of the three coordinators of the Developmental Biological Network of the HCA.
