Description

Epidemiology in veterinary medicine is becoming increasingly important for everyone active in veterinary practice, research, consultancy, organization and regulation of animal production.

The aim of this summer course is to make all participants familiar with the key aspects of veterinary epidemiology in a practical and applied manner.

Upon completion of this course participants should be familiar with all basic concepts of veterinary epidemiology, be capable of critically reading and understanding scientific literature and performing basic statistical and epidemiological analyses. Moreover, the participants should be ready to design observational, analytical or clinical studies and to critically analyze the results. Furthermore the participants will be introduced to several aspects of more advanced epidemiological tools.

The course will be organized as a two week summer course ( 14 september - 25 september 2026 ) consisting of 10 course days. Everyday will be filled with a mixture of theoretical training and practical applications . At the end of the course there will be the possibility to participate in a “take-home” exam. In addition to on-site participation, the summer course is also available online.

The course will be taught by different experienced lecturers with ample theoretica and practical knowledge .

Please note: the course will only take place if there are enough registrations. This decision will be announced no later than August 1, 2026.

The course fee is € 1500.

  • For PhD students of Ghent university, there is a reduced fee of € 600, which can be refunded by the doctoral schools. Please note: your registration is not valid until payment has been received.
  • The online version of the course is available at a reduced fee of € 1275. However, participants following the course online will miss out on several on - site activities, including the farm visit and the one health game.
  • The registration fee includes:
    - all course notes
    - all theoretical and practical courses
    - coffee breaks on all course days
    - lunch during all course days (except for PhD students of Ghent University)
